WA Safety Show 12-14 August 2008

WA Safety Show is Australia's newest Trade Show dedicated to Occupational Safety and Health.

In it's inaugural year, over 3 days the Show is expected to attract more than 150 exhibitors and 3,000 visitors, representing health and safety professionals from a broad range of industry sectors including manufacturing, mining, building/construction, government, emergency services, transport/freight and many more.

Also for the first time, held alongside the WA Safety Show will be the WA Safety Conference, featuring presentations from over 40 speakers on the latest issues in OHS.

Safety Show and Conference in NSW 28-30 Oct 2008

The Safety Conference, 2008, will be held in Sydney from the 28th to 30th August at the Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park (Homebush). It is organised by the Safety Institute of Australia and is dedicated to health and safety issues in the workplace. The conference runs concurrently with the Safety Show and Materials and Handling Show, and is supplemented by presentations and workshops by the principal sponsor: WorkCover NSW. An addition to the 2008 event is the Sustainability Show.

The show is very relevant to events, theatre, television and film crews, with a huge range of information and demonstrations on safety related equipment and systems that are easily adaptable to the entertainment industries.

Extended working hours in the film, television and theatre industries

The Alliance has commissioned the Workplace Research Centre, Sydney University, to research the scope and effects of fatigue, in the film and entertainment industry.  Six focus groups were held in mid September, and a survey for all members and interested parties should be out in early October.  The Alliance wishes to thank the members and other industry workers who gave up their time to attend a session.  The research is being funded through a WorkCover NSW Research Grant.

Safety In The Newsroom

WorkCover NSW has produced a new resource for people working at heights - "Utilities working at heights resource".  It has valuable information and checklists which will be helpful to film and entertainment personnel.

Recall of some Apple and Dell laptop computer batteries

DELL computers and APPLE computers have both issued recall notices for laptop computer batteries made for them by the Sony computer company.
