Extended working hours in the film, television and theatre industries
Tuesday, 12 September 2006 01:06

The Alliance has commissioned the Workplace Research Centre, Sydney University, to research the scope and effects of fatigue, in the film and entertainment industry.  Six focus groups were held in mid September, and a survey for all members and interested parties should be out in early October.  The Alliance wishes to thank the members and other industry workers who gave up their time to attend a session.  The research is being funded through a WorkCover NSW Research Grant.

The Alliance would like to see an industry code of conduct for employers on working hours developed and has asked the Workplace Research centre to do this for them. Workplace Research Centre researchers need to know what the industry workers opinions are in order to do this: on what you think is reasonable and what happens when you work what you regard as unreasonable hours.

Results from the survey will form the basis of a report by the Workplace Research Centre researchers on the working hours patterns of film, television and theatre technicians, and what effects these hours have on health and safety. Knowing these things will help make the industry safer.
